What is the difficulty ?
Climbing Kilimanjaro is not a walk in the park as many peoples said…Even it is not a difficult climb , you have to be in good hiking physical condition and health. The principal difficulty is because you are climbing in altitude and have to be prepared to climb day after day during many days depending the choosen route ! SO NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE DIFFICULTY OF YOUR FUTURE KILI CLIMB !
What is the best time of the year to climb ?
For me, and having climb Kili 2 times … I prefered the months of september and october. There is less rain and it’s less crowded.
What route to choose ?
Like I said and having been there 2 times… My very best route is RONGAI ! It the second easier route after Marangu and it’s less crowded.
Advantages:
Camping – Rongai enjoys the exclusivity of camping with your own team of porters and staff with whom you become very familiar with.
Wilderness Route – The last remaining one, the trailhead is remote meaning fewer climbers use it allowing for exclusivity.
Unique landscapes – Drier open grassland that attracts elephants with views out over Amboseli and Tsavo.
Very gentle ascent – The gentlest of the available ascents, each day is a long walk on a gentle gradient, easing acclimatization and levels of difficulty.
